Artistic signature
Yayen is a contemporary artist tackling two inescapable realities of human existence: healthcare and the environment. Rejecting complexity, he imposes strict limits on his craft—using only simple materials and circular strokes—forcing the viewer to confront the power of restraint. Yayen's pieces demand reflection, invite inspiration, and attempt to provoke meaningful change in how we perceive these vital, interconnected themes.
Motivations
As a migrant nurse caring for the elderly and those with dementia, Yayen is inspired by the courage of individuals who leave their homelands to make a difference. He aims to celebrate and honour their stories and achievements, rekindling their purpose and pride through his art.
Growing up in one of the planet's most beautiful and biodiverse places, Palawan, Philippines, he has a profound passion for conservation. His environmental themes are rooted in the belief that human and planetary health are deeply interconnected.
Engagements
Yayen aims to harness art to create a meaningful impact on healthcare and environmental issues. As a fellow of the Royal Society for Arts and the Royal Geographical Society, he is open to collaborations with artists and institutions that share his vision of art as a tool for social change.
